Tour duration: Approx. 7.5+ hours
Tour includes: Entrance fees to national park, lunch, drinks, jeep and guide

Go to where it all began, Kulen Mountain National Park (Phnom Kulen). This sacred area is considered the birthplace of the ancient Khmer Empire and a holy mountain in Cambodia. It was here that King Jayavarman II proclaimed the Khmer Empire independent and himself as a godlike King in 804.

The tour will take you to the waterfall where you can swim in the pools under the falls.  We will visit the river that has 1000 carvings etched into the riverbed. The waters are regarded as holy. Jayavarman II bathed in the river and had the river diverted so that the rocks could be carved with thousands of fertility symbols.

We will also visit Preah Ang Thom, a 16th century Buddhist monastery with a large reclining Buddha carved into the rocks; the largest of its kind in Cambodia. Kulen Mountain is notable as the area where the stones for the Angkor temples were quarried. In more recent times during the 1970’s, the area was a Khmer Rouge stronghold. Today,it’s a fascinating area to explore on a jeep excursion.

Small Circuit

The Small Circuit takes in several of the major and minor temples in the area. Beginning at Angkor Wat and running for seventeen kilometers the circuit takes in the major elements of Angkor Thom, Ta Phrohm, and Banteay Kdei, and some of the minor but interesting temples such as the Baphoun, The Terrace of the Leper King, The Terrace of the Elephants, the Twelve Prasats, Spean Thma and Sras Srang before returning to Angkor Wat.

Grand Circuit

The twenty-six kilometer Grand Circuit is an extension on the little circuit but taking in Preah Khan, Preah Neak Pean to the Eastern Mebon and the various monuments like Ta Som, Preah Rup, before returing to Angkor Wat and is highly recommended for anyone spending three or more days in the complex. The Big Circuit encompasses a good representation of the rich variety of architecture here.
